A Consultation to Understand What’s Getting in the Way of Learning

This consultation is for parents who know that something isn’t working — even if they don’t yet have the right words for it. Your child may be bright, capable, and trying hard, but learning is taking more effort than it should.

The purpose of this conversation is to explore what’s going on for your child and family, what kind of support may be helpful, and whether our approach is the right fit.

Who this consultation is for

  • Your child is intelligent but learning feels disproportionately hard Homework, school, or everyday demands take far more effort than expected
  • Your child becomes overwhelmed, exhausted, or disengaged by learning
  • You want clarity about what kind of support would actually help
  • You’re looking for thoughtful, specialist input rather than generic strategies

What happens in the consultation

In the consultation, we explore what’s going on for your child and your family, and what kind of support would be most helpful.

The conversation usually covers how learning currently feels, which situations are most difficult, what you’ve already tried, and what you and your child would like help with. As we talk, we begin to form an initial picture of why certain challenges may be showing up and where effort is being absorbed.

We may offer some explanation for these patterns, and we’ll be open about where it might make sense to look more closely in a more structured way later on. The consultation itself is about understanding and orientation, not analysis or diagnosis.

We also pay close attention to fit — whether the challenges you’re facing are the kind we’re equipped to work with, and whether our approach is likely to be helpful for your child and family.

How we talk about our programmes

If it appears that our work may be a good fit, we’ll explain how our programme would look for your child and family specifically.

This isn’t a generic overview. We talk through what elements of our work would be most relevant, what the focus would be in the early stages, what kind of commitment is involved, and what progress typically looks like in similar situations. This allows you to make an informed decision based on clarity and fit.

What you’ll leave with

  • A clearer understanding of why learning may be feeling so difficult right now
  • Greater clarity about what kinds of support are likely to help — and what may not
  • A sense of whether our approach and tools are a good fit for your child
  • An informed understanding of what working with us would involve
  • A clear next step, whether that involves working with us or being guided elsewhere
There is no obligation or pressure to continue beyond the consultation or to make a decision on the spot.
